Effective professional development activities
Abstract:
This talk will begin with a very brief literature review on professional development before focusing on how Drago-Severson’s (2009) learning oriented leadership model of adult learning can be used to implement teacher professional development that respond to both teacher and institutional needs. The talk will first cover activities provided to foster collaboration, promote reflective practice, and encourage participation in the academic community. The workshop will then transition to a discussion of the affordances and challenges of creating a successful PD program in the hopes that attendees can leave with ideas that could be applied to their own teaching context.
